1. Who we are
Mindful Pet Daily (“we”, “us”) operates the website mindfulpetdaily.com, which publishes buying guides about pet enrichment products. For anything in this policy, contact us at hello@mindfulpetdaily.com.
2. The short version
We do not sell your personal information. We measure how the site is used so we can improve it. The things that can create a record about you are: visiting the site, sending us a message, and subscribing to emails. Each is explained below, including what you can switch off.
3. What we collect, and why
3.1 Information you give us
Messages. If you contact us through the contact form or by email, we receive what you send: typically your name, your email address and your message. We use it to reply to you.
Newsletter. If you subscribe, we collect your email address and use it to send the emails you signed up for. Our newsletter provider stores your address and sends the emails on our behalf. You can unsubscribe from any email.
3.2 Information collected automatically
Server logs. Our web host records standard technical information when you load a page, such as IP address, browser type, referring page and time of visit. It is used for security and to keep the site running.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. It uses cookies (see section 4) to collect information such as the pages you view, how you scroll, which links you click (including links to retailers), whether you use our contact form, how you arrived at the site, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device and browser type. It identifies your browser with a random ID, not by name.
Fonts. Some typefaces on this site are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser sends your IP address and basic browser information to Google when a page loads.
Newsletter forms. Our newsletter provider loads a small script on our pages so that signup forms can be shown.
3.3 What we do not collect
No payment details: nothing is sold on this site. We do not knowingly collect information from children (see section 9).
4. Cookies and your choices
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. This site uses:
- A security cookie set by our web host to protect the site from automated traffic. It expires when you close your browser.
- Google Analytics cookies (
_gaand a second cookie beginning_ga_), which hold the random ID described in section 3.2 and last up to two years unless you delete them. - Consent cookies (beginning
cmplz_andwp_consent_), which remember the choices you make on our cookie banner.
Your choices. Our Opt-out preferences page lets you switch off statistics cookies, and our banner responds to “Global Privacy Control” and “Do Not Track” browser signals. How far this goes depends on where you are:
- In the European Union, the EEA, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, opting out or sending one of those signals stops Google Analytics from setting cookies or identifying your browser. Google may still receive basic signals without cookies, such as the fact that a page was viewed.
- Everywhere else, including the United States, opting out on that page and those browser signals do not currently stop Google Analytics. To opt out, use Google’s opt-out browser add-on, or block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Affiliate links and third parties. When you click an affiliate link, for example to Amazon, that retailer sets its own cookie in your browser so it can credit us with a commission. Third parties, including Amazon and other advertisers, may use cookies, pixels and similar technologies to collect information when you visit them through our links, and Google may do so through the analytics and fonts described above. These companies may therefore collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites. Their own privacy policies apply, for example Amazon’s privacy notice. You can limit this by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.
Embedded content. Some pages may include content embedded from other websites, such as a video or a social media post. It behaves as if you had visited that website directly and may set its own cookies; that website’s privacy policy applies.
5. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the site, and only as much as they need:
- our web hosting and email providers, which host the site and handle messages sent to us
- our newsletter provider, if you subscribe
- Google, for Google Analytics and Google Fonts
- Amazon and other affiliate programs, through their own cookies when you click our links
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to.
6. International transfers
We and our service providers may process your information in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where information is transferred internationally, we rely on our providers’ safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses where they apply.
7. How long we keep things
- Messages: as long as needed to deal with your request
- Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe
- Server logs: as retained by our web host
- Google Analytics data: 14 months, after which Google deletes it; totals with no individual information may be kept
- Analytics cookies in your browser: up to two years, or until you delete them
8. Your rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Write to hello@mindfulpetdaily.com and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.
If you are in the EU or the UK, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the GDPR and UK GDPR. We rely on our legitimate interests to run, secure and measure the site and to reply to messages, and on your consent for the newsletter. You can object to analytics using our Opt-out preferences page, and you may complain to your data protection authority.
If you are in California, you may request information about the categories of personal information we collect and ask us to delete it. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA, and we will not discriminate against you for making a request.
9. Children
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use HTTPS and take reasonable steps to protect information, but no website can guarantee complete security.
11. Links to other websites
Once you leave this site, the other website’s privacy policy applies.
12. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page.
