About Mindful Pet Daily

Why this site exists

Search for the best lick mat for your dog and you will get a dozen near-identical lists. Search for whether calming beds actually work and you will find one site telling you there is no scientific evidence, another telling you the benefits are science-backed, and several more refusing to commit either way.

That is the state of pet enrichment advice online. Most of it is written to rank, not to answer. Products get recommended because they sell, not because they suit the dog or cat in front of you — and the pages that sound most confident are often the ones with the least behind them.

Mindful Pet Daily is an attempt to do the opposite: say what the evidence actually supports, say plainly when it does not support anything, and tell you when the honest answer is that you do not need to buy anything at all.

What we cover

Enrichment — the things that keep a dog or cat mentally occupied, not just physically tired.

  • Brain games and puzzles — puzzle feeders, problem-solving toys, difficulty calibration
  • Lick mats and foraging — lick mats, snuffle mats, slow feeders
  • Solo play and tech toys — automatic toys, feeders and cameras for pets left alone
  • Calming and anxiety gear — what helps a stressed animal, and the limits of what any product can do

What we do not do

We do not test products ourselves. Our guides are research-led: we work from published veterinary and behavioural research, manufacturer information and patterns in customer reviews, as set out on How We Review.

We are not veterinarians, veterinary behaviourists or certified trainers, and part of what we publish is pointing out when one of them is the right next step.

Our approach

We do not claim a product treats a medical or behavioural condition. Separation anxiety, for example, is a clinical condition. A frozen lick mat can give an anxious dog something to do during a departure; that is management, not treatment.

We do not publish numbers we cannot support. No invented test counts, borrowed review totals or logos of companies we have no relationship with.

Commissions do not decide our recommendations. Sometimes the best answer earns us nothing, such as a cheaper option or using what you already own differently. See our affiliate disclosure.

We point out who a product is not for. Where we know a product is unsuitable for certain animals, such as power chewers, flat-faced breeds or pets on restricted diets, we say so.

We say when to call a professional. Sudden behaviour changes, self-injury, food refusal, severe separation distress and aggression are not enrichment problems.

How we make money

Affiliate commissions. When you buy a product or book a service through some of our links, the company may pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. Details are on our affiliate disclosure page.

Mindful Pet Daily publishes general information about pet enrichment products. It is not veterinary advice and does not replace a qualified veterinarian or certified behaviour professional. We do not make or sell the products we write about; their manufacturers and sellers are responsible for them.
