Our take: a compact level 3 board with three different kinds of moves, and a good second brand for dogs who have learned how Nina Ottosson puzzles work. Skip it if your dog chews plastic.

The Move-2-Win is a level 3 puzzle from TRIXIE, a German pet brand with its own difficulty scale. On one narrow board, your dog lifts cones, tugs drawers open by their loops, and pushes a slider knob along a path to open two more drawers.

At a glance: Level 3 (TRIXIE’s scale) · 2 cones, red drawers with loops, 2 yellow drawers behind a slider · About 13 × 5 inches · Rubber feet · Plastic, BPA, phthalate and lead free · Dishwasher safe or warm water and soap (maker)

How it works

The board combines three kinds of hiding places:

  • Cones: two cone-shaped covers sit over treat hollows. They’re shaped so they can’t just be knocked over: your dog has to lift them straight up.
  • Loop drawers: red drawers with a loop on the front. Your dog hooks the loop and tugs the drawer open.
  • Slider drawers: a knob runs along a path on top. Pushing it along opens two yellow drawers.

TRIXIE describes four ways to play, building up from the cones alone to all three moves. The fourth puts the cones in the top holes as stoppers, which have to be lifted off first. That last step is what turns it into a sequence.

You set the difficulty:

  • Learning: treats under the cones only, then add the loop drawers once the cones are easy.
  • Full level 3: add the slider drawers, so your dog uses all three moves.
  • Harder still: put the cones in the top holes as stoppers, and fill only some hiding places so your dog has to search.

Two brands, two scales

TRIXIE and Nina Ottosson both grade puzzles in levels, but they’re separate scales. A TRIXIE level 3 and a Nina Ottosson level 3 aren’t exactly the same difficulty. In practice that’s useful: a dog that has learned how one brand’s boards work has to think again with the other, which keeps rotation fresh.

Who it’s for

  • Dogs who solve beginner puzzles easily and are ready for mixed moves
  • Owners who want a second brand to rotate with a Nina Ottosson board
  • Homes with less floor space: the board is long and narrow rather than square

Skip it if

  • Your dog chews plastic. The cones lift out completely, and drawers and knobs are plastic too.
  • Your dog already beats level 3 boards in minutes. Some owners find it on the easy side; look at the Nina Ottosson MultiPuzzle (level 4) instead.
  • You have a young puppy. At least one owner found it discouraging for a puppy; start with an easier puzzle first.

What owners report

  • Liked: a fun brain game, with solid construction for the price.
  • Split: some dogs find it a real challenge, others work it out quickly. Some knock the cones with their head rather than lifting them.
  • Disliked: the drawers sliding out too easily, some parts breaking early, and the board moving around despite its rubber feet.

Safety

  • Pick up the cones after every session. They’re the only parts that come off, and the ones a dog is most likely to carry away and chew.
  • Supervise. TRIXIE says never to leave a dog alone with a puzzle toy, because no toy is indestructible.
  • Use a mat anyway. The rubber feet help, but owners still report sliding on smooth floors.
  • Check the drawers and knob before each use and stop using the toy if anything is cracked or chewed.
  • Count the treats as part of the day’s food.

Move-2-Win vs Dog Casino

Both are budget level 3 boards with drawers, from two different brands.

Rotating one board from each brand gives your dog two different kinds of problem.

FAQ

Is TRIXIE level 3 the same as Nina Ottosson level 3?

No. Each brand uses its own scale, so treat the levels as a rough guide within each brand. Start your dog on the easiest play mode and add steps from there.

Can the cones be knocked over?

TRIXIE designed them so they have to be lifted straight up. Some owners report their dogs knocking them with their head anyway, especially at first.

Is it dishwasher safe?

TRIXIE says it is, and that it can also be washed with warm water and soap.
